In 1992 the Earth Summit established three Rio Conventions: the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD). At the Rio + 20 Conference on Sustainable Development, we take stock of the ways these agreements have mobilized the world to address the interrelated challenges of climate change, biodiversity loss and combating desertification/land degradation.
